My Article on “Counter Stamped Coins Of Portuguese Bassein”, Is published in Numismatic Digest a Publication of Indian Institute of Research in Numismatic Studies, Nasik the only institute focused on Numismatic Research in India. Waiting for the Printed Publication to come the Index is published online. The article talks of Portuguese coins in Vasai region counter stamped in the event of conflict with the Marathas Army and Spanish Forces. It gives details of the Epigraphs on the The Vasai and Arnala fort and maps it to the counter stamps on these Portuguese Coins from 17th & 18th Century by the Maratha Army. Spain invaded Portugal from 1580 to 1640 and the existence of Spanish fleet in Vasai then can be seen through the counter Mark of Spanish Monogram “Castile and Aragon” on Vasai coins and epigraphs of 17th Century.
